Homeschools
The Concord Museum welcomes the opportunity to work with Homeschool families. From hands-on activities to interactive performances, we are dedicated to making the learning experience fun and meaningful for the whole family. Programs run two hours and are designed for a multi-age learning experience. Drawing on the strength of older and younger siblings working together, children discover the history of Concord and its influence on the wider world.
Digging the Past
How can we learn about a civilization that left no written records? Assume the role of an archaeologist and participate in the investigation of 4,000-year-old stone tools. Participants will explore the role of the archaeologists and their methods, take part in a "shoe-box" dig – tabulating and analyzing their finds, and a guided visit to the Museum.
Cost: $75.00 for up to 10 participants, each additional participant is $7.00 (with a maximum of 15)
Colonial Sampler
Just when was the colonial period? Explore New England in the 1700s through a guided tour of the Museum's colonial galleries and period rooms, examine the clothing of the time, and assume the role of an apprentice to create a pierced tin plate. Take on the role of a history detective and examine objects and words from America's past.
Cost: $75.00 for up to 10 participants, each additional participant is $7.00 (with a maximum of 15)
Colonial Cooking
In a setting evocative of a colonial home, gather around a roaring fire and explore the lives of a colonial family. Discuss how food was obtained, preserved, and prepared. With the technology available in the 1700s, prepare gingerbread, applesauce, and rose wafers, mull cider, and churn butter. And don’t forget to eat. We'll also make an herbal sachet to take home.
Cost: $85.00 for up to 10 participants, each additional participant is $7.00 (with a maximum of 15)
Meet Henry Thoreau
Henry Thoreau is recognized as a writer, poet, naturalist, teacher, and philosopher. Using the items once owned by Thoreau and his family (the largest collection of Henry Thoreau’s belongings are on display at the Concord Museum), we’ll study his life and legacy. Role-play, hands-on activities, object reading, and primary sources bring the world of Henry Thoreau to life for children of all ages.
Cost: $75.00 for up to 10 participants, each additional participant is $7.00 (with a maximum of 15)
